Overview

First Term runs from the beginning of August to late December.

In | August

First Term; August. First Term begins in early August and continues through the month as follows:

August, First Week
Course instruction begins on August 1, or if such date falls on a weekend, the first following Monday.
August, Second Week
Course instruction continues, with opportunity for students to change course selection.
August, Third Week
Course instruction continues, with opportunity for students to change course selection.
August, Fourth Week
Course instruction continues, with final opportunity for students to change course selection.

In | September

First Term; September. First Term continues through the month of September as follows:

September, First Week
Course instruction continues through the week, except for Labor Day, a federal holiday celebrated on the first Monday of September.
September, Second Week
Course instruction continues, with opportunity for students to change a course’s grading selection.
September, Third Week
Course instruction continues, with opportunity for students to change a course’s grading selection.
September, Fourth Week
Course instruction continues, with final opportunity for students to change a course’s grading selection.

In | October

First Term; October. First Term continues through the month of October as follows:

October, First Week
Course instruction continues, with limited opportunity for students to appeal to withdraw from a course, leaving a notation on transcript.
October, Second Week
Course instruction continues, with limited opportunity for students to appeal to withdraw from a course, leaving a notation on transcript.
October, Third Week
First midterm; no regularly scheduled classes, though reading and review recommended.
October, Fourth Week
Course instruction continues, with final opportunity for students to appeal to withdraw from a course, leaving a notation on transcript.

In | November

First Term; November. First Term continues through the month of November as follows:

November, First Week
Course instruction continues, with period for new material introduction and instruction nearing its end.
November, Second Week
Course instruction continues, with period for new material introduction and instruction nearing its end.
November, Third Week
Course instruction continues, with period for new material introduction and instruction at its end.
November, Fourth Week
Reading and review period (‘r&r’) begins, with holiday taken on fourth Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

In | December

First Term; December. First Term continues through to late December as follows:

December, First Week
Reading and review period continues, no exams scheduled or major assignments due.
December, Second Week
Reading and review period continues, no exams scheduled or major assignments due.
December, Third Week
Finals period, with final assignments and exams due. First Term ends on final day of this week, which typically falls on or before December 21.
December, Fourth Week
End-term and holiday period begin.

2nd | Term

Overview

Second Term runs from the beginning of January to late May.

Second Term; January. Second Term begins in early January and continues through the month as follows:

January, First Week
Course instruction begins on first Monday after January 1, or if such day is the 2nd, the first Tuesday.
January, Second Week
Course instruction continues, with opportunity for students to change course selection.
January, Third Week
Course instruction continues, with opportunity for students to change course selection, except for Martin Luther King Jr Day, a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of January.
January, Fourth Week
Course instruction continues, with final opportunity for students to change course selection.

Second Term; February. Second Term continues through the month of February as follows:

February, First Week
Course instruction continues through the week, with opportunity for students to change a course’s grading selection.
February, Second Week
Course instruction continues, with opportunity for students to change a course’s grading selection.
February, Third Week
Course instruction continues, with opportunity for students to change a course’s grading selection, except for President‘s Day, a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February.
February, Fourth Week
Course instruction continues, with final opportunity for students to change a course’s grading selection.

Sum (or Summary, Summation) Term runs from the beginning of June to the end of July.

Sum Term; June. Sum Term begins in early June and continues through the month as follows:

June, First Week
Course instruction begins on June 1, or if such date falls on a weekend, the first following Monday.
June, Second Week
Course instruction continues, with final opportunity for students to change course selection.
June, Third Week
Course instruction continues, with opportunity for students to change a course’s grading selection.
June, Fourth Week
Course instruction continues, with final opportunity for students to change a course’s grading selection.

In | July

Sum Term; July. Sum Term continues through the month of July as follows:

July, First Week
Course instruction continues, with limited opportunity for students to appeal to withdraw from a course, leaving a notation on transcript. Sum midterm occurs, adding 1-2 days to US Independence Day, a federal holiday celebrated on the 4th of July.
July, Second Week
Course instruction continues, with final opportunity for students to appeal to withdraw from a course, leaving a notation on transcript.
July, Third Week
Course instruction continues, with period for new material introduction and instruction at its end.
July, Fourth Week
Review and finals period, with all final assignments and exams due. Sum Term ends on final day of this week, which typically falls on or before July 31.

Mid | Terms

Overview

The following are short periods of break from instruction expected to occur during (“amid”) the course of each term.

In | First

First midterm is to occur on the third week of the third month, October.

In | Second

Second midterm is to occur on the third week of the third month, March.

In | Sum

Sum midterm consists of 1-2 day extension of July 4th holiday.
